MICF – Viggo Venn British Comedian

The first time I saw Viggo Venn was back in 2016 when he was performing in the Prague International Fringe Festival. A lot has changed for him since then. Having won Britain’s Got Talent, he’s certainly much more visible! However, what hasn’t changed is the level of energy and enthusiasm he brings to his performances. And of course, his very charming Norwegian accent!

In Venn’s first Australian tour since his big win, ‘British Comedian’ sees him hint at the irony of his big win on Britain’s Got Talent, as Venn claims he is neither British, not talented. While Venn is definitely not British, his talent and skill are not to be underestimated. Having studied at a French clown school, École Philippe Gaulier, he is an expert clown and physical actor who uses exaggerated movement to captivate the audience and fill the room with vigour. His quick-wit and skilful improvisation led to hysterical moments of comedy as he interacts with the audience in a playful and cheeky way. His dynamic stage presence keeps you sitting on the edge of your seat, wondering what his next outrageous move will be.

Venn is a lively and animated performer as he bounces around the stage, with hair sticking up on end reminiscent of a mad scientist in an 80s film. Paired with a range of brightly coloured suit jackets and fluro socks, Venn is quite a bizarre and wildly memorable caricature. As is expected, his staple high-vis vest also makes an appearance more than one time. While sometimes worn by the comedian, more often than not, his high vis is being swung around his head as he dances in circles around the stage.

It’s no surprise that in his opening week, Venn has performed to a full house of hysterically laughing Melbournians, so make sure you book tickets to see this energetic powerhouse performance. I would recommend going with a sense of adventure, as in a show like this, no one is ever safe. At any moment, you could be called upon to become part of the act, whether it be drowning in the ocean, acting as a traffic controller, or taking part in an impromptu wedding ceremony. No matter what, with Viggo Venn, you’re guaranteed an exciting and action-packed night of laughs.
