Hayley Sproull Wild Flutters

Forbidden temptation… throbbing manhoods… thrusting surrender… Since thumbing the pages of naughty books at the local library as a kid, Hayley Sproull has been tickled by the world of erotica. Nominated for Best Show at the 2024 NZ International Comedy Festival, Hayley’s latest hour of her signature comedy style is guaranteed to make you feel quite hot and a little bit bothered.

How would you describe your show to someone who knows very little about it?

It’s a raunchy, ridiculous look into the world of erotica told by a kiwi comic who plays the piano, sings and shares waaaaaay too much.

What makes it stand out and why should people see it?

It’s the wildest show I’ve ever written and it’s the kind of show where you’ll be either squirming with embarrassment or screaming with joy. It’s very naughty and people should see it because we all need to let out the naughty from time to time.

How long was the process from idea to writing to stage? Any challenges along the way?

The summer before writing it I got really into reading and listening to smut and erotica. So, coming up with the content felt easier than previous years because it was so part of my everyday life. Writing the songs can be time consuming and sometimes you come up with a really funny line but then lose 4 hours trying to find a good rhyme to match it.

What attracts you to comedy?

I’ve loved to be looked at and laughed at since I was a little girl. The idea that that could be someone’s job was too attractive to pass on.

How would you describe your relationship with the audience and what do you love the most about live performance?

I like to think the audience and I are just having a big wine and confession session. I love connecting with audiences by sharing the unsaid and knowing that they do the same things as I do. They’re laughing at themselves by laughing at me and that’s my favourite thing about it.

Who would you say have been your biggest inspirations?

Billy Connelly – because I just want people to feel like it’s a wild story time and no one tells a yarn like Billy. One liners aren’t my go-to, I love to take people on ridiculous journeys.

What are three things that would surprise people to learn about you?

I worked for the Sultan’s army in Oman teaching their female soldiers how to march, I have one kidney, and I love filthy, heavy metal.

What do you love to most about performing at MICF?

It’s my first time! So, ask me again next year.

What comes after the MICF for you?

I head to Brisbane for two shows and Sydney for two shows before heading back to NZ to tour my brand-new show The Baroness starting at the NZ International Comedy Festival. So, it’s all go!

The host of New Zealand’s The Great Kiwi Bake-Off and winner of Taskmaster NZ, Hayley has also appeared on Australian TV screens on Have You Been Paying Attention?. Hayley’s dulcet tones can be heard each morning on New Zealand’s number one rated breakfast radio show ZM’s Fletch, Vaughan and Hayley Breakfast Show.
