Beasts of Burden and Other Party Guests

by | Apr 30, 2026

Miss Friby premieres immersive cabaret spectacle Beasts of Burden and Other Party Guests. Multi-award winning cabaret artist, Miss Friby, invites audiences into a bold new immersive performance, Beasts of Burden and Other Party Guests, taking over the historic Bluestone Church Artspace in Footscray, for a strictly limited three-week season (June 4-21, 2026). Dress code: instincts.

Part party, part ritual, part beautifully controlled chaos, the work transforms the venue into a bespoke pop-up theatre – complete with extravagant lighting design, live soundscapes, rhinestones, and a fully realised performance world that surrounds the audience.

Developed through a Maribyrnong Arts & Culture creative residency, the show will blend cabaret, dance, satire, and physical theatre into an experience that is visually striking, unpredictable, and impossible to replicate elsewhere. At its core, Beasts of Burden and Other Party Guests explores the invisible weight we carry in contemporary life. Set inside a party that slowly slips into its own logic, the work invites audiences not to escape that weight, but to recognise it together.

“Everyone arrives carrying something,” says Miss Friby, “This show doesn’t ask you to define it. It just asks you to bring it with you.”

Known for her genre-bending live work, Miss Friby continues to push the boundaries of contemporary cabaret. Her previous Bluestone Church Artspace residency produced Galah, a multi–Green Room Award winning work (including Most Outstanding Cabaret Artiste) – now she returns, with a new beast entirely.

June 4 – 21
