What if your beloved boomer ‘spinster’ aunts were secretly defending our skies from alien invasions? Meet your new favourite dyke-namic duo, proudly sapphic and privately sci-fi, eradicating evil one CWA baked good at a time. In THE SCROLLING OF DOOM, Bev & Myrt must save the world from an evil telco oligarch, while their son Jamie navigates Grindr and dodges the embarrassment of having alien-fighting mums.
Starring Jenny Lovell, best known as Jenny Hartley in Prisoner; circus and physical performer Amanda Owen; and Jackson Eather, fresh from their nude solo show No Script, No Pants. Joined by Liliana Braumberger, the show-stealing Paulette in Legally Blonde; Alex Joy, puppeteer of Coldplay’s fictional alien puppet band during the 2024 world tour; and Donna Prince who, having designed puppets for theatre makers from Puppet Rats to Eddie Perfect, builds the creatures who will bring Bev & Myrt’s supernatural adventures to life.
Writer/co-producer David Innes (Time Lord) explains “I’ve made several hugely popular nerdy, genre shows, but none have leaned into my queerness. Meanwhile, where’s the Midsumma content for sci fi loving queer nerds? My co-producer Stayci Taylor (Queen Beaver, My Formative Queers) agrees that ‘querds’ – as she now insists on calling us – are chronically under-served”.
BEV & MYRT AND THE SCROLLING OF DOOM, the debut of ‘How Delightful Theatre’, promises fun, queer nerd-core, while celebrating our LGBTQIA+ elders as action heroes, following years of struggle and erasure. It’s ‘Twilight Zone’ meets the ‘twilight years’ – and Bev & Myrt are here to save the day.
