Defrost Festival returns in 2026 to celebrate its 5th consecutive installment, with the largest and most exciting program yet.
Showcasing the very best of unscripted and sketch comedy, Defrost shines a spotlight on the rising talent from Melbourne and beyond. From July 29th to August 8th, over 50 unique productions will heat up the CBD, drawing from local and interstate artists across improv, sketch, and experimental performance.
Catch improvised musicals, parodies of popular TV shows, and so much more! This multi genre festival caters to a wide range of comedy tastes, and has something for everyone.

2026 PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:
- Royal Rumble 3 30 comedians go at it in a WWE style battle royal, blending improv, stand up, and sketch
- The Ritual Part ceremony, part party, this free event kicks off the festival in Dionysian style
- GREMLIN A completely immersive improv show where the theatre is transformed into a new location. Imagine “The Rehearsal” meets “The Truman Show”, but live on stage!
- Pull Yourself Together An experimental genre show where improvisers contend with actors who must stick to a rehearsed script
