After thrilling audiences at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and Sydney Comedy Festival, the groundbreaking playable comedy show, KARATE MAN, is set to make a triumphant return to the Sydney Fringe Festival as part of the 2024 Made in Sydney program.
Performances will run at the PACT Centre for Emerging Artists from September 17 to 21.
A Unique Interactive Comedy Experience
In this interactive sketch show, the audience takes command of Karate Man, a nostalgic arcade-game action hero, through the use of a Bluetooth video game controller. Sharing the controller with fellow attendees, you will be able to “PUNCH”, “JUMP” and even “SPECIAL” your way through an epic quest to defeat his evil nemesis Ross Roundkick and restore peace to Karatetown—or at least, that’s what Karate Man thinks.
Designed and directed by absurdist sketch superstars Bruno Dubosarsky and Daniel Scarratt of BEAK, KARATE MAN is brought to life by a team of Sydney’s top talented alternative comedians and improvisers including Maddie Atkins, Tim Dunk, Juliet Rae Timmerman, and Steph Ryan (Cranston Cup Winner).
Bruno Dubosarsky, co-creator and ‘Karate Man’ himself, says audiences will enjoy the surprisingly heartwarming choose-your-own-adventure narrative of the show.
“KARATE MAN is unlike anything you’ve ever seen. It’s an actual playable video game, with the most realistic graphics in the world.” says Dubosarsky. “It’s not just a show; it’s a cooperative epic the whole crowd plays together.”
