Australian television favourite Luke Jacobz will hit the stage this October, starring in a new Sydney production of Geoffrey Nauffts’ acclaimed drama Next Fall at Eternity Playhouse.
Known to audiences through Home and Away, McLeod’s Daughters, The X Factor, and more recently as a presenter on Sydney Weekender, Jacobz leads a cast in one of the most celebrated contemporary plays of the past two decades.
Funny, thought-provoking and deeply moving, Next Fall tells the story of Adam and Luke, a devoted couple whose relationship is tested by their very different beliefs. When an unexpected tragedy forces their families together, questions of love, faith and acceptance come to the surface in a story that is as entertaining as it is emotionally powerful.
Director Darrin Redgate says the play’s enduring appeal lies in its honesty.
“Next Fall is not about telling audiences what to believe. It’s about celebrating our shared humanity, even when our views differ. It’s funny, surprising, and ultimately incredibly hopeful.”
Jacobz said he was immediately drawn to the script.
“What I love about Next Fall is that it asks big questions while never losing sight of the people at the heart of the story. It is full of humour, warmth and honesty, and that’s exactly the kind of theatre I want to be part of.”
The play was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play and has been praised by critics around the world, including The New York Times, which described it as “The Funniest Heartbreaker in Town.”
