MICF – Don’t let me eat my babies

by | Feb 14, 2025

In Don’t let me eat my babies, Bohmer brings to life loners, weirdos, the perpetually dull, and the woefully misunderstood. These characters, described as “her babies,” reflect the complexities of the human (or in some cases pseudo human) condition.

In a way, she has birthed them, raised them, let them suckle at her teat, and – like a mother hamster – she may soon devour them.

An endearingly weird and chameleon-like comedian, Holly Bohmer now brings her debut solo show to the 2025 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Strap in for a hilariously strange and sometimes macabre hour of sketch comedy from the self-proclaimed goblin woman with nothing left to lose.

There are no actual babies in this show.

“This show was born from a lifetime of creating and collecting weird characters.” Says Holly Bohmer. “I love the challenge of playing characters that are odd but finding something to make the audience empathise with. A lot of these characters mean well, but they’re so totally un-self-aware that they push everyone away.”

Directed by Melbourne alternative comedian Matt Jenner, known for the critically acclaimed Ingrown (MICF 2023, Adelaide Fringe & Sydney Comedy festival 2024) and Latchkey which was nominated for ‘Best Comedy’ (Melbourne Fringe 2023).

Holly Bohmer is an actor, comedian, and improviser from Melbourne. She has performed in many festivals such as Melbourne fringe (The Ultimate 2014, The Nightlight Zone 2022 & Melbourne Detours 2023), MICF (The Note 2015, The Nightlight Zone 2022, Toni & Lyndelle; Pieces of work 2023 & A Very Normal Dinner With Your Parents 2024), and various Melbourne comedy shows (Yes, Yes, Yes, Moulin Beige, Dirt & The Improv Conspiracy). Her work is often surreal, grotesque, and interactive.
