Save room for dessert – Joel Bray is kicking off REWIRE 2025, serving up immersive dance like you’ve never experienced before!
REWIRE is back at Geelong Arts Centre for its third year running – a delectably innovative program packed with unconventional performances featuring daring explorations of identity, satirical twists on the classics, and high-energy chaos—all designed to challenge, excite, and surprise curious minds.
The REWIRE 2025 season begins this February with a show from the chaotic genius of multi-award-winning choreographer and performer, Joel Bray (I Liked It…BUT, Sexual License, Biladurang). Joel will be bringing his devilishly scrumptious contemporary dance piece, Daddy, to The Open House theatre on February 21-22.
Part dance, part immersive experience, Daddy is an intimate and cheeky deep-dive into Bray’s cultural identity as a proud Wiradjuri man. Delving into the impact that colonisation has had on his relationships, self-expression and artistic medium as well as the challenging intersectionality of being a queer First Nations man.
Serious themes aside, Bray manages to (literally) sugar-coat the performance, blurring the lines between performer and audience so no two nights are ever the same. Throughout the season, REWIRE 2025 will continue to shake up the senses with performances designed to push the limits of imagination and break the rules of traditional theatre. It’s not just about sitting back and watching—it’s about being part of the experience. From April 4-5, Nancy Denis’ fiery solo cabaret M’ap Boulé will explore Haitian history, Australian childhood, and queer identity in a powerful celebration of liberation and self-discovery.
Burnout Paradise by Pony Cam will play June 27-28, turning the mundane task of applying for arts funding into an action packed and exhilarating spectacle with performers tackling thrilling challenges on speeding treadmills. Then from August 15 16, Pride and Prejudice by Bloomshed reimagines Austen’s classic with sharp humor, tackling gender, class, and the housing crisis. Finally on August 29-30, Night Night by The Last Great Hunt blends cinema and theatre in a mesmerizing tale that follows Pip’s Antarctic journey into a mysterious new dimension.
