Stephanie Hare’s Breakthrough Comedy Special!

by | Feb 24, 2025

Like the TV show Girls, if Girls was set in the Stone Age

Stephanie Hare grew up off the electricity grid in rural Tasmania without internet, television, or even a fridge, and now she’s made it her entire personality for an hour.

This is a whimsical show that encapsulates the absurdity of both rural and city life, the chaos of being a neurodivergent twenty-something, and how much Steph now loves Instagram Reels.

When Stephanie’s mother was twenty-three, they relocated out of Melbourne, bought a goat, and built a house out of firewood in the middle-of-nowhere Tasmania. Now Stephanie is twenty three and she’s written a comedy show about it. Her little brother used to finger knit harnesses and ride the goat like a horse; her father spent weeks living in a cave; her mother snuck into the neighbours’ paddocks at night to shear their sheep; Steph thought this was all pretty normal until she moved to Melbourne.

Stephanie Hare began performing comedy on the Scottish circuit in 2023. Since then she has come Runner-Up in the RAW Comedy National Final, 2024, and was invited to open for US comedian Maria Bamford (Netflix, BoJack Horseman) during her 2024 Australian Tour.

She is one of only three Tasmanian comedians to place in the RAW National final, the other two being Hannah Gadsby and Luke McGregor. Her show “A Chance to Address the Amish Rumours,” will be her debut hour in which she delves into her unusual and absurd off-grid upbringing in rural Tasmania.
