Stupid F##king Bird by Aaron Posner at MUST

So begins Stupid F##king Bird, an exploration of the turbulent intersection of Love, Art, and Identity — with more than a touch of humour and irreverence.

Con aspires to create art that means something—something real, something true—a dream that his traditionalist mother, Emma, struggles to comprehend. ‘Sort of adapted from’ Anton Chekhov’s enduring masterpiece, The Seagull, this piece is a witty and raw contemporary reimagining that challenges the norms of traditional narrative, whilst having a lot of fun. Love complications abound: Con loves Nina, Nina Loves Trig, Trig loves… himself, Mash loves Con, Dev loves Mash…Sornloves everyone and Emma LOVES!

Critics have hailed the play as a “poignant and relevant piece of theater that defies the boundaries of conventional formats” (Theatre Bloom); “a ripe mashup of mock and awe” (Washington Post); and “…an accessible and unfailingly delightful jaunt …absorbing in its every glance and revealing in its every sigh.” (Washington City Paper)

“It’s not often that you find a work that gives each performer such strong material from which to develop their character, and gives each creative the freedom to create a world without restrictions,” says Director, Seamus Allan. “It has been such a joy to build this production with these people, considering how geese really walk, how much cicada is too much cicada, and how one might deal with their partner leaving them for their mother’s husband.”

Seamus is excited to be staging this production with MUST, a company that “…continues to support students and create astonishing and powerful work that consistently punches way above its weight and acts as an incubator for some of our most important emerging theater artists.” (Australian Arts Review)

Prepare to be captivated as Stupid F##king Bird takes flight, inviting audiences on a journey through the tangled webs of human emotion, ambition, and self-discovery.
