Sydney Fringe: Odie

by | Aug 20, 2026

Did you find Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of the classic a little TOO USA-centric? The cyclops drinking Coca Cola label-to-camera? Odysseus’ ship being ‘proudly made by Lockheed Martin’? It was all a bit much, right?

Well, why not come see the most Australian adaptation of the Odyssey possible: Because it’s from the perspective of a Queensland State of Origin hooligan stuck in Sydney at 1AM after all the trains have stopped. Surrounded by a hostile cityscape, Odie must resist the siren calls of the pokies, charm 10’ tall sports-commentating sea monsters, and make his way back to his missus, Penny, at the Ithaca Suites.

ODIE is an award-winning one-man surrealist black comedy told entirely in Australian vernacular verse (think ‘high language, low brow’). ODIE is a vigorous, incisive, and hilarious examination of modern Australian identity, masculinity, vice, and mateship; a cultural lampooning for the discerning modern hooligan.
