The Pageant is “the beauty pageant to end all beauty pageants” and is a satirical, darkly funny comedy set at a children’s beauty pageant that goes terribly wrong.
Winner of the Director’s Pick of the Fringe Award at Adelaide Fringe 2023, this show has performed around the country, picking up a cult following. The Beryls regularly host sold-out themed pageants at The Catfish. Before heading off to regional QLD, they are bringing back their debut show due to popular demand.
The Pageant is a satirical and darkly funny play set at a children’s beauty pageant that goes terribly wrong. Featuring physical comedy and original music, The Pageant casts the audience as the contestants and pushy showbiz parents in this surprising and hilarious hour.
Creators and performers Patrick Dwyer and Laura Trenerry are half of ensemble The Beaks Theatre, who won the Best Comedy Award for their show Stickybeak at Melbourne Fringe in 2023. They played sold-out shows and received rave reviews for their show Cattle Call at the Malthouse Theatre in 2023.
Laura is also from award-winning comedy trio The Travelling Sisters. The Pageant was written with Ell Sachs (The Travelling Sisters, The Wholesome Hour) and directed by physical theatre powerhouse Kimberley Twiner (PO PO MO CO, The Wholesome Hour, Stickybeak). The Pageant has toured to Adelaide Fringe, BLEACH* Festival Gold Coast, Empire Theatre Toowoomba, Woodford Folk Festival, The Comedy Republic Melbourne and more.
